3 tips to stay fit at work!

Whether you are working for a company or running your own, you end up spending most of your day at work. According to Health Review, you are sitting an average of 9 hours a day which can lead to obesity. You should workout not only to stay in shape but also to tackle stress and improve productivity at workplace. Following are the ways you can stay fit at work!

  1. Work out during the work day
    Large companies have different sport events organised such as cricket, squash, table tennis and football. Start-ups often organize activities for the team with dance sessions, yoga activities, and other sports. Some organizations offer gym memberships at discounted rates so that employees work out and stay healthy. Researchers conducting a 2008 study in the UK found that that more than 200 employees who used a company gym were more productive during the day and felt more satisfied at the end of the day.
  2. Incorporate small activities as a part of your daily regime
    There are quick ways to incorporate fitness into your day. You can take the stairs instead of an elevator. To keep your spine strong, you can leverage standing desks and stretch your upper body muscles every 2 hours. In 2013, a study showed that people experience “immediate benefits” for cognition following “a single bout of moderate exercise”, such as 15 minutes of moderately intense cycling on a stationary bike.
  3.  Motivate your team to stay fit together
    If you are running a team, take initiatives to motivate your entire team. Your department will not be able to function productively if employees keep falling sick. Plan a team retreat every month and organise something fun such as treks, camping, weekend trips, and bowling. As a CEO, make partnerships with studios and gym. Let your staff take brief breaks throughout the day to rest mental muscles. A 2015 study found out that employees that are given brief breaks improve their focus, sense of responsibility and tasks for extended periods.

While it is important to stay fit physically, you must ensure that you are not compromising your diet and sleep habits. Home cooked food is the best option to maintain a healthy eating lifestyle. Try avoiding junk and processed food! Hydrate yourself with fresh juices and water at regular intervals. Research also shows that 7-8 hours of sleep is critical for most people to function at their best. A combination of a healthy diet and a good fitness regime will help you stay physically fit and make you productive. According to Psychologists, physical exercises can reduce anxiety and depression by 60%. So treat fitness as your medicine and see yourself succeed!
