A day in the life of a Blogger!
Did you know that blog is an abbreviated version of Weblog? Interestingly, blogging is the current trend in the market. Blogging is about connecting with others by telling your story or a narration. There is a wide range of categories that bloggers write about ranging from food, lifestyle, fashion, travel and more! Some of the well known blogs include Humans of New York (7.7 million followers on Instagram), Earthpix (18.9 million followers on Instagram), MissMalini (734 thousand followers on Instagram) amongst others. Bloggers use platforms such as WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr to share their thoughts. Some of the skills you should develop if you want to be a blogger include:
- Research and content generation: Content is a crucial part of a blog. You will need to research according to the category of your blog. For example, if you are a fashion blogger, you will have to research well on the industry to come up with different and interesting ideas to engage your audience. Content should be creative, impactful and related to the topic.
- Creativity: It is important to think out-of-the-box while presenting content. Pictures, videos, GIFs, vines make the blog come alive. It helps to have knowledge on videography, photography, and develop your video editing and photoshop skills. You can get up to speed with different platforms such as Flipagram, Canva or Adobe Photoshop to create posts, creatives, and design for the blog. This will attract readers to the blog and encourage them to stay on your page longer. Instagram is a great example of a visual medium where text is kept to the minimum and creativity is king!
- Attention to detail: In any content that is being published to a wide audience, attention to detail is critical. Make sure you proofread your work to avoid spelling and grammar mistakes. Make sure that the tenses are consistent and that active voice is used. The design should be uniform if you are representing a brand. Choose your colours and words carefully to create recall from your audiences.
Bloggers typically start their day by researching a new topic pertaining to the blog. They create a draft and proofread it until it is ready to be posted on the blog. They contact their video vendor or graphic designer on a daily basis. Additionally, if you are looking for a career in blogging, some of the ways to earn revenue from your blog is through advertisements and getting sponsors on board. You can market your blog on social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest amongst others. Based on the response to the posts, bloggers come up with different strategies to market and generate relevant content that goes viral. While it may be an unpredictable career at times, it has become an active trend amongst millennials!
