Where Curiosity Meets Creativity- A Conversation with Shivani Gulati

Edited by: Sukshma S. Upadhyaya

Shivani Gulati, a published poet/author, is an alumna of Talerang’s Future CEOs Program. She pursued her Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and International Business at Christ University and is currently a mentor at Technovation Challenge.

What defines you as a person?

Curiosity meets creativity served with a side of gratitude and a dash of timely courage – I chose to experiment in a whole new field of development sector consulting post my education in Finance and it completely changed my perspective about the world and my vision to serve it both with and beyond my profession.

I’ve also been super guilty of hobby-hopping, be it slam poetry and writing a book, baking, swimming and hiking and now playing the ukulele – it keeps me living in the true sense, this sense of wonder for what more is out there.

What keeps you going?

Being able to pay for all my hobbies without breaking into a sweat or having a second thought!

What’s your long-term vision?

I want to create a more inclusive world by helping fund products and services that bridge the intersectional gaps of inequalities. Personally, I want to live a life  I find interesting (easily bored gang where you at?) because ‘Zindagi lambi nahi badi honi chahiye babumoshai.’

Why Talerang?

Through Talerang, you’re not only made more aware and accepting of the fact that you’ll change career streams multiple times and it’s perfectly alright to figure out what you truly like and are good at, but it also gives you a launchpad to stay relevant, learn skills and be flexible enough to take and make opportunities that come with jobs of the future.

Any advice for someone just starting out in their careers?

Everyone’s journey is unique. Don’t compare your chapters with someone who isn’t even writing a book ( yes, that’s an original quote. Bet you weren’t expecting that haan!). Stay flexible and learn as much as you can, but don’t forget to enjoy this ride called life.
