My Life Vision

What is my life vision, I am not entirely sure. But I do know that this week made me confident, inspired and more knowledgeable about myself and the world around me.

Mr Nishant Sharma, Co-Founder of Kedaara Capital has completed his MBA from Harvard Business School and has done his B.Tech/M.Tech from IIT Delhi. He has previously worked at General Atlantic, McKinsey and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and is part of Talerang’s Young Leader’s Panel.  He took a session with us that helped me understand that it is okay to explore to dabble around a little bit before I realize what I want to do with my life. I learnt that my career goal should not be the goal of my life. My life vision is bound to change from time to time. And at any point of time I will give different amount of weight age to my Personal, Professional and Societal goals.

Getting into week two, I was extremely nervous because I had been asked to give a 3-minute presentation in front of the whole class. And to say I am afraid of public speaking is the biggest understatement; I just don’t speak in public.

I felt very confident when I was taught how to structure my speech. How it is  is important to start and end on a similar note. About combating nervousness by doing a power pose right before you have to go up on stage. I also learnt to be familiar with my audience. And that practice would lead to success in the presentation. All of this culminated in structuring my speech, which I was asked to give at the end of the class.

I was so surprised with the positive feedback I was given about the way I presentented.. I was very proud of myself. And I don’t think I will make such a big deal about speaking in public the next time.  I can safely say that I am going to be out of my nervous bubble very soon.

I heard some really fantastic 3 minute speeches from my classmates who were so confident, articulate, genuine, and had put in such good content that I was left amazed.

I also thought about what I wanted to accomplish by the time I was 80 years old. I realized the ups and downs that would come my way. It took me a while because I wasn’t so sure of what I wanted of life. I am the kind of person that just takes life as it comes but here I was actually planning it out for myself. I was quite aspirational in my approach I must say. But penning stuff down actually made the path ahead clearer. When I was charting it out during the pre-work I had made it very self-centered. But through the session I realized that I wanted to add a big aspect of the community in my life as well. So that was a good eye opener for me.

Goodbye for now, I must get back to my prework in order to contribute my best at the next session! And also because I don’t want to have to have to fire myself! (You will know what I mean when you are part of the program).
